Abstract
Background and Objective: Resistance of Helicobacter Pylori (H. pylori) to antibiotics is the main cause of relapse into Helcobacterial infections. With the use of several antibiotics that have synergistic effect, we can inhibit this antibiotic resistance. Thus, we aimed at determining resistance patterns and assessing the synergy of combining multiple antibiotics on H. pylori.
Material and Methods: Biopsy specimens were taken from 100 patients with gastric ulcer referred to Imam Reza hospital in Amol, north of Iran. After isolation and identification of H. Pylori, antibiogram was performed with different antibiotic disks containing one antibiotic, a combination of two antibiotics (metronidazole + clarithromycin) and three antibiotics (metronidazole + Claritromycin + Ciprofloxacin).
Results: In this study, H. pylori were isolated from 53 (53%) biopsy specimens. Of these, 49 (5.92%) were resistant to metronidazole, 14 (26%) to amoxicillin, 10 (19%) to clarithromycin, 7 (13%) to tetracycline, 13 (5/24%) to furazolidone and 7 (13%) to ciprofloxacin. In survey of synergistic effect, an increase in inhibition zone diameter around of combined disks was seen up to 5mm compared to the most effective antibiotic.
Conclusion: The inhibition zone diameter of discs containing two and three antibiotics was large, in comparison with one antibiotic.

Abstract
Background and Objective: Fatty liver disease is one of the most common diseases in postmenopausal women. While regular exercise can decrease the complication of this disease, it has not been clearly identified. Thus, we aimed to investigate the effect of 6-weeks of aerobic training on Alanine transaminase, Aspartate Aminotransphrase and Alkaline phosphatase changes in menopausal women.
Material and Methods: In this Semi-empirical study, 20 postmenopausal women were randomly divided into equal experimental and control groups. The experimental group participated in a controlled aerobic training at 40-60 percent of maximal heart rate. The program was the three training sessions per week (45-60 minutes) for six weeks. By being fast for 12 hours, blood samples were taken before and after 6 weeks.
Results: After six weeks, the level of Alanine transaminase, Aspartate Aminotransphrase and Alkaline phosphatase decreased significantly in experimental group (p<0.05), in contrast with control group. Also, there were no significant changes in the baseline characteristic of participants, liver enzymes level and lipid profile between experimental and control groups.
Conclusion: The findings showed that six-weeks of aerobic training can diminish liver enzymes but it has not any effect on lipid level.

Abstract
Background and Objectives: Due to the unique absorption and antibacterial properties of nanoparticles, their use in water and wastewater treatment to remove bacteria is spreading. This research aimed to study the effect of silver nanoparticles in the removal of Enterococcus faecalis isolated from industrial sewage.
Material and Methods: after preliminary studies, field studies including sampling of industrial wastewater was conducted. First, Fecal Coliform, total coliform and Enterococcus faecalis of industrial Sewage were measured by standard methods of microbiology, then the effect of concentrations of 500, 250, 125, 62.5, 31.25, 15.62, 7.81, and 3. 9 PPM of isolated nanoparticles serial dilution method on Enterococcus faecalis and standard (PTCC 1339) was determined. Next, and the turbidity of tube (OD), which represents growth of bacteria, was read at 600 nm with a spectrophotometer. After that, all tubes were cultured on solid medium and the results were analyzed using SPSS 22.
Results: fecal and total coliform contamination of industrial Sewage from slaughter and textile plant were approved and Enterococcus faecalis was isolated. The growth of isolates and standard bacteria was not controlled by any of these concentrations. None of the concentrations was able to remove the bacteria but the increase of concentration led to higher effect of nanoparticles, and in accordance with the type of bacteria, it was different, but the difference was not statistically significant.
Conclusion: Although silver nanoparticles ,according to the concentration, affect the Streptococcus faecalis, they cannot completely remove bacteria. Therefore, the economic factors and other involved factors need to be considered in the application of nanoparticles.

ABSTRACT
Background and Objective: Osteoporosis is one of the complications of diabetes. The aim of this study was to determine the impact of resistance training along with Portulaca oleracea supplementation on OPG and NFκB levels (bone markers) in women with type II diabetes.
Methods: Overall, 28 women with type II diabetes (44 to 60 years old) were randomly and equally assigned into four groups (supplement, training, training-supplement and control). An eight-week resistance training program (three one-hour sessions per week with one repetition maximum) was performed using three types of bands with different resistances, at 40-50% intensity and 50-70% maximum heart rate. P. oleracea seeds were supplemented daily (7.5 grams mixed in yogurt) for eight weeks. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, paired t-test and ANOVA.
Results: After 8 weeks, OPG and NFκB levels in the three groups of supplement, training and training-supplement increased and decreased, respectively. The highest change in both variables was observed in the training-supplement group. Moreover, the level of these two variables in the training-supplement group had significant difference with the controls and other groups (P=0.000).
Conclusion: As a non-pharmacological therapeutic approach, the regular resistance training and P. oleracea supplementation can increase bone formation markers and reduce bone resorption in women with type II diabetes.

ABSTRACT
Background and Objective: Biofilms are community of bacteria that attach to inanimate surfaces or living tissues via production of extracellular polymers and exopolysaccharide matrix. Microbial biofilms on various surfaces of the hospital environment are considered as a reservoir of infection spread. The present study aimed to evaluate the disinfecting effect of benzalkonium chloride on some bacterial isolates causing nosocomial infections.
Methods: First, 13 isolates from four bacteria including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Acinetobacter and Enterobacter were obtained from Microbiology Laboratory of Al-Zahra Hospital in Isfahan, Iran. The samples were transferred to Microbiology Laboratory of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Shahrekord University for testing. Evaluation of biofilm formation and determination of minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the disinfectant and effect of the disinfectant on planktonic growth and biofilm formation were performed.
Results: All bacterial isolates (52 cases) produced biofilm. Mean MIC of benzalkonium chloride for P. aeruginosa, S. aureus, Enterobacter and Acinetobacter was 0.14, 0.2, 0.18, 0.17 g/ml, respectively. Planktonic growth of all four bacteria was inhibited at concentrations of 2MIC, MIC and 1/2MIC. Biofilm was not produced in MIC and 2MIC concentrations, and biofilm formation capability increased by reducing the concentration of benzalkonium chloride.
Conclusion: The results show that the use of appropriate concentration of benzalkonium chloride can prevent the growth of different bacterial species, but sub-MIC dose of this disinfectant may stimulate biofilm formation.

ABSTRACT
Background and Objective: Nanobacteria are nanometer-scale particles with different shapes, which have been a subject of debate in modern microbiology. They belong to a proposed class of living organisms, specifically cell-walled microorganisms with a size much smaller than the generally accepted lower limit for life. Since some microorganisms are able to continue growth at high temperatures, we aimed to isolate thermophilic bacteria from Gheinarcheh hot spring in Ardabil (Iran) and identify the characteristics of these microorganisms.
Methods: Microbial mats were found in cultures from Gheinarcheh hot spring in North West of Iran. Synthetic media were prepared and used for isolation of protease-producing thermophilic bacteria, and identification of the features of microbial mats. Cultures were incubated at temperature range of 60-120 oC. Scanning electron microscopy, DNA extraction and polymerase chain reaction were used to further identify characteristics of the microbial biofilms.
Results: Microbial biofilms of nanoparticles were detected in our samples. Growth of the bacteria increased at all temperatures tested. Results of scanning electron microscopy showed nano-sized particles in the scale of 60 nm. No band was visible in gel electrophoresis of polymerase chain reaction products.
Conclusion: This study is the first to report the presence of hyperthermophilic nanobacteria in Iran.

ABSTRACT
Background and objectives: Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death worldwide. This study examined the effects of cardiac rehabilitation exercise on lipid profile and expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPAR-α) gene in patients who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting.
Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, after screening, patients who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) were randomly divided into an experimental group (n=12) and a control group (n=12). After the surgery and discharge from hospital, the experimental group performed rehabilitation exercise for two months, while the control group did not perform any exercise after discharge from the hospital and the initial phase of rehabilitation. Fasting blood samples were collected before and after the last training session to evaluate biochemical variables and PPAR-α gene expression of lymphocytes. PPAR-α expression level was assessed by qRT-PCR. Statistical analysis was done in the SPSS software (version 20) using repeated measures.
Results: In the follow-up after the two-month cardiac rehabilitation exercise, the PPAR-α gene was significantly overexpressed and plasma HDL levels increased significantly in the training group compared with the control group (P<0.05). Although the concentrations of LDL and triglycerides decreased in the experimental group, this reduction was not statistically significant (P>0.05).
Conclusion: The results indicate that the protocols carried out in the study could be utilized for improving HDL levels and cardiovascular function in CABG patients.

ABSTRACT
Background and Objectives: Schiff base ligands are prepared via the condensation reaction of 1, 10- dimethyl–phenantroline aldehyde derivative with some nitrogen donor ligands, such as benzene ring that have different functional groups (-OH, -SH, -OCH3,-CH2OH, -Br) in acetonitrile. Recent studies suggest that Schiff bases might have antibacterial activity. Therefore, we aimed to synthesize new Schiff base complexes and evaluate their antibacterial activity against a number of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
Methods: Schiff base ligands and their complexes were characterized by mass spectrometry, infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The in vitro antibacterial activity of the Schiff base ligands and metal ions against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa was evaluated by determining minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimal bactericidal concentration (MBC) using the broth dilution method.
Results: All synthesized Schiff bases exhibited favorable antibacterial activity against the tested microorganism, but the antibacterial effect of compounds 3OH and 3SH was more significant than that of other compounds.
Conclusion: Compound 3EOH has favorable antibacterial activity against the tested bacteria.

ABSTRACT
Background and Objectives: Candida albicans is one of the most common fungal pathogens that can form biofilm, particularly on surface of medical devices. In recent years, C. albicans has shown increased resistance to antifungal agents. In this experimental study, we aimed to study effects of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (Fe3O4 nanoparticles or SPION) on biofilm formation by C. albicans.
Methods: First, the SPION were synthesized by chemical co-precipitation. The formation of nanoparticles was confirmed by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum fungicidal concentration (MFC) of SPION were determined. Then, antibiofilm effects of the nanoparticles were investigated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Finally, data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0 at significance level of 0.05.
Results: According to the results of X-ray diffraction, the SPION had a mean diameter of about 70 nm. MIC and MFC values of SPION against C. albicans were 100 ppm and 200 ppm which reduced biofilm formation by 87.2% and 100%, respectively. SPION showed significant inhibitory effects on C. albicans growth and biofilm formation.
Conclusion: Based on the findings, SPION may be considered as a novel family of fungicidal compounds. However, further studies are necessary to evaluate the safety of these nanoparticles for treatment of fungal infections in humans.

Abstract
Background and Objectives: It has been shown that low intensity physical activity rarely increases bone density or renewal. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate effects of four weeks of plyometric training with and without vascular occlusion on serum levels of bone alkaline phosphatase (BALP) and C-terminal telopeptide of type I collagen (CTX), as markers of bone formation and bone degeneration in inactive girls.
Methods: This was a semi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest design. The study population consisted 36 inactive female students aged 23.84±1.096 years with a mean body mass index of 22.59±0.52 kg/m2 who were randomly divided into a plyometric training group without blood flow restriction, a plyometric training group with blood flow restriction and a control group. The experimental groups performed four weeks of plyometric training (three sessions per week), while the control group did not perform any exercise. Blood samples were obtained 48 hours before the first training session and 48 hours after the last training session. Measurement of BALP and CTX was carried out using commercial enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kits. Collected data were analyzed using t-test and one-way analysis of variance. All statistical analyses were performed using SPSS software (version 23) and at significance level of ≤ 0.05.
Results: The level of BALP was significantly higher in the low intensity exercise with blood flow restriction group compared to the control group (P=0.005) and the low intensity exercise group without blood flow restriction (P=0.003). The BALP/CTX ratio, as marker of bone metabolism, increased significantly following low intensity exercise with blood flow restriction compared with the other groups (P<0.05). However, low intensity exercise without blood flow restriction induced no significant change in the studied indices.
Conclusion: Plyometric training with blood flow restriction could be as effective as high intensity training for improving bone metabolism and turnover, particularly in inactive individuals.

ABSTRACT
Background and objectives: Clove (Syzygium aromaticum) essential oil is a food additive with proven antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. Thus, it may be a good candidate for controlling foodborne pathogens, such as Staphylococcus aureus. The aim of the present study was to evaluate effects of sub–minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of clove oil on some virulence factors of S. aureus.
Methods: The standard strain and 12 field isolates of S. aureus were obtained from our microbial collections. The broth tube dilution method was used to determine the MIC of clove oil against the isolates. Sterile 96-well flat bottom polystyrene microtiter plates were used for planktonic growth and biofilm formation assays. Slide coagulase test was used for assaying effect of clove oil on clumping factor production. Production of α- and β-hemolysins was assessed by culture on 5% bovine blood agar.
Results: The results showed that sub-MIC concentrations of clove oil inhibited α- and β-hemolysins and biofilm production and planktonic growth of the examined isolates. However, clumping factor was not affected by sub-MIC concentrations of clove oil.
Conclusion: Our results indicate the favorable inhibitory effects of sub-MIC concentrations of clove oil against growth and biofilm and hemolysins production of S. aureus isolates.
